In March of 2004 Shaun King was
signed by the Arizona Cardinals. A five-year veteran,
King owns a 14–8 record as a starter and guided
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to an appearance in the NFC
Championship game following the 1999 season.
As a Bay Area native, Shaun realized his lifelong dream
to join the Buccaneers when he was originally selected
by Tampa Bay in the second round (50th overall) of the
1999 NFL Draft, the multi-talented King has combined
for 31 touchdowns (26 passing, 5 rushing) in 31 career
appearances and has completed 368 of 654 passes (56.3
percent) for 4,064 yards with 26 touchdowns, 20 interceptions,
and a passer rating of 75.4. He’s also rushed
104 times for 424 yards and five touchdowns. Last year,
King appeared in three games as a reserve, completing
15 of 22 passes for 140 yards and one touchdown. King,
26, set the NCAA career passing efficiency record as
a senior at Tulane with a 183.3 mark and left as the
school leader in total offense (9,468 yards), passing
yards (8.419), touchdown passes (70), pass completions
(646), and passing attempts (1,163). As an NFL rookie
in 1999, King led Tampa Bay to a 4–1 record in
the final five weeks of the regular season and eventual
appearance in the conference title game.
He was a Consensus All-America pick as a prep quarterback
at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg. Though heavily
recruited as a prep football star, chose Tulane for
challenge of helping to revive a losing program.
