Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Shaun King fulfilled the second phase of his “King's Kids” project with a trip to Washington D.C. July 13 - 17, 2005 . The King's Kids program is a collaborative effort between the Shaun King Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast. The program's primary goal is to encourage the youth participants to become active in the political process of local, national and international government.

After attending 12 classes, listening to guest speakers and conducting personal research, 17 students were chosen from criteria that included attendance, attitude, behavior, grade point average, overall participation and essay presentation.

Last year, King took the same group to Tallahassee , where they spent time with Governor Jeb Bush during the three day tour of the state Capitol. In 2006, King's program will focus on international government, culminating in a tour of the United Nations in New York and NATO in Brussels, Belgium.
